Extreme Pita Celebrates Second Annual National Pita Day

Health Inspired Eatery Offers Half-Price Pitas on June 2

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 22, 2012) - Following the success of last year's campaign, Extreme Pita, a national Canadian franchise announced the celebration of its second annual National Pita Day on Saturday, June 2, and its annual fundraising campaign in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation™.

"National Pita Day reflects Extreme Pita's commitment to inspiring healthier eating and living, which is the foundation of our brand promise," says Alex Rechichi, co-founder and CEO of Extreme Pita. "We want to encourage our guests to make smart choices to nourish both their appetites and their bodies."

Beginning yesterday, guests who visit an Extreme Pita location in Canada can purchase a red paper heart for $2 with all proceeds going to a $35,000 target to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation's continued efforts in raising awareness of heart disease and stroke. The two-week-long campaign ends on Saturday, June 2 when Extreme Pita locations across Canada will offer guests half-price pitas all day long.

"We are honoured to be a part of Extreme Pita's National Pita Day initiative for the second consecutive year," says David Sculthorpe, CEO, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. "Eating nutritious and balanced meals is one way Canadians can reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke. We applaud Extreme Pita for its commitment to offering its customers healthy choices that meet the criteria of our Health Check program."

On National Pita Day, Extreme Pita guests can choose from a variety of delicious and nutritious meat and vegetarian pita options, including six Health Check approved pitas offered on the menu. Extreme Pita is the first national quick service restaurant to earn the Heart and Stroke Foundation's Health Check™ approval with six menu items that meet the program's rigorous nutrient criteria- two adult and four children's pita sandwiches.

Implemented by Extreme Pita in 2011, National Pita Day aims to celebrate and encourage Canadians to live healthier lives.
