Express Employment Professionals Names David Lewis Vice President of Franchising

January 17, 2013 // Franchising.com // Oklahoma City, Okla. - Express Employment Professionals, the No. 1 staffing franchise and the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm, recently announced the promotion of David Lewis to vice president of franchising. At the age of 32, Lewis is one of the youngest executives among franchise companies in the U.S.

Lewis joined Express in 2001 and managed several Express locations throughout Oklahoma and Texas under the leadership of CEO, chairman and franchisee Bob Funk. As a result of his successful management record, Funk brought Lewis to the company’s international headquarters in Oklahoma City to serve as executive director of franchising in 2011.

“Some may have thought we took a risk hiring such a young guy to head our franchising efforts, but with David’s expertise in the staffing industry and his fresh, exciting ideas, we knew he had a vision to attract a new generation of franchise owners,” Funk said.

One of the most challenging years in the franchise industry was in 2010 due to the struggles in financing and banking for small business loans. In fact, Express only awarded 13 offices in 2010.

Upon Lewis’ leadership of the department, Express awarded 23 offices in 2011. And, last year, Express awarded another 40, an increase of 208 percent compared to 2010.

“2012 was a record year for franchise sales,” Lewis said. “It was an incredible year, and this success obviously wouldn’t have happened without the talented franchise team I work with at Express.”

As part of the Express franchise team, Lewis brings a very collaborative management style and extensive sales and recruiting experience to the table. He has created a dynamic flat-line department that encourages a free flow of information and creative approaches to problem solving.

“I count myself extremely blessed to have the opportunity to work for a company where you can put your individual talents to work for the greater good,” Lewis said. “My career is incredibly satisfying because I can help a lot of people – from managing one of the largest offices in the Express system to selling franchises that help put people to work.”

In addition to his role at Express, Lewis is an appointee to the Oklahoma Governor’s Council on Workforce and Economic Development, and is a past nominee for the Oklahoma House of Representatives. Lewis, a two-time “40 Under 40” award winner, is an expert on public policy’s impact on franchising and the labor market, and wrote a bestselling leadership book, “The Emerging Leader: Eight Lessons for Life in Leadership.”
