National Survey Reveals That Family Time is Most Important to Women this Valentine’s Day

January 31, 2013 // Franchising.com // With Valentine’s Day falling on a weekday this year, American women say they want to hunker down at home and celebrate Valentine’s Day together with their families.

A new national survey of 234 American women with children reveals:

  • 90% say they’re happy to spend Valentine’s Day at home with the kids and go out with their Valentine on another night.
  • 42% say their ideal Valentine’s Day is an experience that includes the family as one of their top three choices for a perfect Valentine’s Day
  • 62% say the high prices or big crowds deter them from going out on Valentine’s Day.
  • 84% say they’d prefer quality time with their significant other over a gift.

The survey was commissioned by Papa Murphy’s, the nation’s largest take ‘n’ bake pizza chain, with over 1,325 locations in the U.S. and Canada. Papa Murphy’s created the HeartBaker™, a premium-quality pizza that really brings the love to the table. It’s freshly made at the store, ready for you to bring home to bake. Papa Murphy’s created the pizza so families can celebrate Valentine’s Day together at home (price and participation for the HeartBaker varies by location).

“With Valentine’s Day falling on a school night this year, we encourage families to share the experience together around the table over a home baked pizza we created especially for the occasion,” says Ken Calwell, CEO of Papa Murphy’s, ranked #1 Pizza Chain by Zagat voters. “The HeartBaker is a delicious and affordable pizza that really brings the love to the table. You take it home fresh, bake it in your own 425-degree oven, and serve it piping hot. It’s a special Valentine’s Day dinner – We call it Love at 425 degrees. ”

The HeartBaker™ is but one fun family Valentine’s Day idea this season. Here are options from other companies:

  • Heart Shaped Sirloin Steak from Lobel’s
  • Heart Shaped Ravioli from Alfonso Gourmet Pasta
  • Heart Shaped Muffins from Vitalicious
  • Heart Shaped Donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts
  • Love Letter Cookies from Eleni’s New York

“You don’t need to fight crowds or pay high prices at restaurants,” says Calwell. “On Valentine’s Day, you should stay home, relax and reconnect with the people you care about the most in this world - your family.”
