Dog Training Franchise Inks Deal to ‘Zoom’ into the Windy City

Fast-Growing Pet Concept to Bring Three Agility Centers, Canine Social Clubs to Chicago

March 19, 2013 // Franchising.com // Chicago –The Zoom Room®, an eco-friendly, active lifestyle dog training franchise, announced today it has signed a franchise agreement that will bring three locations to Chicago, breaking into the Windy City and furthering its reach across the U.S. The company, which is the only brick-and-mortar dog training franchise in America, is eyeing Bucktown, Lakeview, Lincoln Park and the South Loop for the first locations.

At the Zoom Room, owners learn to teach their dog everything from agility, obedience and therapy dog training, to puppy preschool, scent tracking, shy dog training for rescue dogs and other activities, giving not only the dog a workout, but the owners as well. In addition to group and private classes, the Zoom Room serves as a dedicated event center for dog birthday parties, charitable fundraisers and other canine-focused events.

Bringing the concept to Chicago are South Loop residents and husband-and-wife duo Raul and Patricia Murguia. The couple, who signed the agreement to open three Zoom Room locations over the next three years, are lifelong dog lovers and successful marketing experts. They are excited to offer the city a fresh alternative to a dog park, especially during the cold winter months.

“We are thrilled to introduce Chicago dog lovers to the Zoom Room and give them a fun new outlet to take their pups,” said Raul. “With the cold weather during the winter and lack of dog parks during the summer, we know that dogs and owners alike will enjoy our unique concept.”

The new franchise agreement will bring the first Zoom Room to Illinois, with the first location expected to open in the fall of 2013. Currently, the company has 19 nationwide locations in nine states, with 21 more in the pipeline.

“Breaking into Illinois – especially the Chicago market – is exciting for us and we are thrilled to fill the much-needed demand with a business where dog owners can bond with their pets and stay fit at the same time,” said Mark Van Wye, Chief Operating Officer of the Zoom Room. “The rapid growth of the franchise means that even more pet owners will soon have access to the top-notch training and solution-oriented retail products we offer.”

Americans spent a record $50.96 billion on their pets in 2011, with the pet services category growing the most at 7.9%, or $280 million, since 2010, according to the American Pet Products Association. Unlike most other dog-related businesses, though, the Zoom Room requires owners to be present with their dogs at all times – deepening the bond between the dogs and their owners and promoting responsible pet ownership as well as great opportunities for socialization.

In addition to agility training and other specialized classes, the Zoom Room’s Private Gym provides an opportunity for quality exercise time with one's dog, regardless of the weather. Stores also carry a full line of eco-friendly, solution-oriented training gear including raw and organic dog food, all-natural treats and chews, collars, leashes, harnesses, dog toys and puzzles.

The original Zoom Room opened in Culver City, Calif. in 2007 and was founded by Los Angeles, CA dog training expert Jaime Van Wye. As a sporty, eco-friendly and fresh approach to dog training, the Zoom Room is the fastest-growing pet franchise in the U.S. and a thriving leader in the $50 billion pet industry.

The Zoom Room franchise requires an initial investment between $99,000 and $178,000 – significantly lower than other brick-and-mortar pet franchises currently on the market.
