Local Military Veteran to Open Hawaii’s First Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen

Seasoned Food Service Industry Professional Signs Agreement to Bring Upscale Italian Restaurant to Ewa Beach

April 01, 2013 // Franchising.com // EWA BEACH, Hawaii – “Mangiamo! Let’s eat.”

The phrase heard around the world in Italian family kitchens will soon be said daily in Ewa Beach with Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen serving authentic experiences for lunch and dinner.

Local resident Robert Carisle, an experienced food service professional and military veteran, has inked an agreement with Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen to open the brand’s first Hawaiian location. The well known upscale Italian restaurant that brings to life old world charm and hospitality will open in August 2013 at the new Laulani Village (situated at the corner of Fort Weaver Road and Keaunui Drive in Ewa Beach).

Carisle, 37, previously spent 10 years with the U.S. Army. A strong leader who honed his management skills in the military, developed a passion for entrepreneurship through his post-military career working in beverage sales.

“There is no denying the demand for quality Italian dinning options here in Ewa Beach. I have my finger on the pulse of the restaurant and food industry here in Hawaii,” said Carisle who fell in love with the Russo’s concept after searching for the best Italian restaurant to bring to his hometown. “I can’t wait for families in our community to experience the fun, family-friendly atmosphere as well our signature recipes.”

Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen has garnered a cult following for its truly authentic and delicious Italian dishes made from the freshest ingredients and its New York style pizza. The restaurant blends the freshness of a fine Italian restaurant with the magic created around a homemade Italian meal.

“We are thrilled to have Robert on board with us. He is a family man and that is what our restaurants are founded upon – the importance of spending quality time with family around the dinner table,” said Chef Anthony Russo, founder of Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen and Russo’s New York Pizzeria. “Robert’s military background and ability to follow a proven system makes him the perfect fit for the franchise opportunity. We expect nothing but great things from Robert and are looking forward to working with him.”

The Russo’s name has become synonymous with coal-fired New York style pizza and authentic Italian meals. Beyond the brand’s specialty pizzas, menu items include fresh salads (Insalata), soups (Zuppe) and homemade pastas. Authentic Italian cannoli’s, fresh seafood, chicken, veal and flatbread sandwiches are just some of the distinctive dishes on the menu. The full Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen menu is available at www.nypizzeria.com.

Russo’s Coal-Fired Italian Kitchen and its traditional Italian recipes trace their origins to a tight-knit family where the kitchen was the center of all activity. As a young child, Anthony helped his grandmother role dough for cannolis, carefully wrapping it around four-inch wooden broomsticks to get the right shape before it cooked. By the age of 12 Anthony was learning authentic Italian recipes. Earning the Chef’s distinction as an 18-year-old, Anthony honed his skills as a culinary expert working in his parent’s fine Italian restaurant and then opened his own pizzeria while still a young man. He then opened Anthony’s Pizzeria in Clear Lake, Texas, and later two restaurants in Houston; one named Café Anthony and the other named Russo Café Anthony, an upscale Italian restaurant.

“There is nothing on the island quite like Russo’s. We will offer Italian food that visitors and local residents will fall in love with,” said Carisle. “I am looking forward to facilitating families getting together and spending time around the table enjoying delicious food. Nothing brings a smile to my face more than good food with good company.”

With 30-plus restaurants open and operating throughout Arkansas, Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas– the company has launched a significant growth phase and plans to open 20-25 restaurants in the next three years.
