House of Bread Bakery Cafe Subcomes to the Gluten Free Craze

Is Introducing the Very Best, Freshest Gluten Free Bread on the Market

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) March 30, 2014 - House of Bread still maintains the desire for gluten free products is often based upon misinformation that gluten is bad for you or makes you fat. "However, as a business owner, you have to give customers what they want, not what you think is good for them," states Sheila McCann owner of House of Bread Franchising. "Having been in business for seventeen years, House of Bread has lived through the fad diets of no fat, no carb and now we have no gluten. I am sure the gluten diets will to pass but we want to give our beloved customers the option of buying fresh, high quality gluten free bread rather than the subpar grocery store bread."

A gluten-free diet is recommended for those suffering from celiac disease, an autoimmune condition in which white blood cells attack the intestinal wall, interfering with the digestive process and the absorption of nutrients. Many non-celiac sufferers also ask themselves whether going gluten-free will actually bestow health benefits that are worth the sacrifice. The following facts suggest that going gluten-free will probably not bring them any closer to a state of health and well-being, than simply consuming a well-varied, moderate diet containing seasonal fruits, vegetables and nuts, quality sources of protein and fiber-rich grains.

  • Some health buffs pursue a gluten-free diet thinking they will lose weight, yet gluten-free products contain the same amount of calories as those made with wheat, rye or barley. According to Mark Haub, Associate Professor of Kansas State University’s Department of Human Nutrition, one gram of sorghum, corn or rice flower is metabolically akin to one gram of wheat flour.
  • Gluten-free products are less nutritiously dense than comparable products, since, as US News notes, "gluten-free versions (of foods like bread, pasta, crackers, waffles, and cereals) are notoriously low in fiber," since they are made of an array of starchy flours, including tapioca, potato and white rice flour.

Fiber does more than promote regular bowel movements; it helps keep our cholesterol levels down, prevents colonic cancer, aids in weight maintenance and is vital support for a wide array of helpful bacteria in the gut. Because fiber-rich foods require more chewing time, they give your body more time to feel satiated, thereby forming an important part of any sensible weight loss diet.

Finally, if all these health reasons don’t convince you to continue waking up to your favorite slice of whole wheat, nutty or seed-topped bread, just think of the beautiful earthy aroma and soul-soothing flavor of one of humankind’s greatest inventions – a loaf of bread – it is truly inimitable.
