Seattle's CKO Kickboxing Community Shows Everyone Can Be Fit

New Moms to Technology Executives Tweet: "Kickboxing Is for Everyone"

SEATTLE - Jan. 29, 2015 // PRNewswire // - You don't have to be a martial arts master or a Kung Fu fighter to enter a CKO Kickboxing Gym or to own one.

This is the message portrayed through the social media sensation sweeping Seattle.

The #IamCKO campaign on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram shows ordinary people who are achieving extraordinary results with the proprietary workout created by Joseph Andreula over 18 years ago. This amazing workout has spread from New Jersey to the Seattle Washington area.

"Our goal is to show that almost anyone can benefit from the CKO Kickboxing workout. Our members or as we like to refer to them - our CKO Family - initially come to us at different fitness levels," said Joe Andreula, president and founder of the popular fitness franchise CKO Kickboxing, which has more than 60 gyms stretching from coast to coast. "Our members are people who are overweight, have diabetes or haven't gone to a gym in years. They are getting in shape because they like the family atmosphere and community we've created and of course the workout. They keep coming back."

A typical member can range from being a new mom who wants to lose baby weight, to computer programmers who have packed on more than a few extra pounds over the years. They all have one thing in common: they never wanted to be mixed martial arts champions.

"They all wanted to get in shape and have fun in the process," he said.

Ironically, most of our franchisees share similar stories including Garett and Jessica Renon who embody the CKO Kickboxing lifestyle and also execute the franchises business model.

CKO Kickboxing Seattle has built a strong community of loyal clients by creating a fun atmosphere where people want to come back, day after day to get in shape and see their friends, said Jessica Renon, co-owner of the local franchise that was voted the Second Best Gym in Seattle for 2014. The gym opened 3 years ago and now has more than 500 members from every walk of life.

"People of all levels and all abilities are participating in the #IamCKO social media campaign," she said. "They are posting selfies reflecting the ideology that CKO Kickboxing is for everyone."

"One client, Kim Schaaf, a woman in her mid 50s has a family history of diabetes and obesity. She signed up on Black Friday in 2013 when she couldn't climb a flight of stairs without getting winded. She was the last person you'd expect to see in a gym. Now she's our biggest advocate. She's smiling and she's happy," said Jessica. "That's what makes this job worth it. I really do care about the people and I think they care about me."

That sense of family and community spirit is part of CKO Kickboxing Seattle's core values.

"Every day we try to improve. We take pride in motivating our clients," said co-owner Garett Renon.

CKO Kickboxing franchise owners, like their clients, come from all walks of life. Jessica Renon is a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy who will be transitioning out in early February after more than 10 years of active duty.

"I wanted to serve my country. Now I want to impact people's lives by owning a CKO Franchise location here in Seattle. I feel I can reach people on their physical and emotional levels. I can help my members grow and thrive," she said.

One of those employees, Josh Cannaday was a customer who became an instructor and a certified personal trainer.

"He went from being an overweight, shy guy working as a maintenance man at the famous Edgewater Hotel to becoming "super healthy and one of our top employees, without a doubt," she said. "He's inspiring people. People love to hear his story about his 50-pound weight loss."
