Retro Fitness Fuels Orlando Development with 20 Gyms

National Low-Cost, High-Value Fitness Franchise Expands Florida Presence with First Five Orlando Locations on Track to Open This Year

July 01, 2015 // Franchising.com // ORLANDO – With one out of every three Orange County residents at a healthy weight, local demand has increased for affordable fitness options. In response to this void, a popular New Jersey fitness chain is entering the Orlando market to provide locals with the amenities and atmosphere they love at high-end gyms, without the hefty membership price tag.

Retro Fitness - a national low-cost, high-value fitness franchise with more than 135 locations operating in 16 states - plans to open 15-20 gyms throughout the Orlando area within the next 3-5 years. The company’s CEO and founder, Eric Casaburi, owns three of the first five gyms scheduled to open this year. These initial clubs are currently under development in Orange and Lake Counties – including Clermont, Windermere, Winter Springs, Apopka and surrounding areas.

Commenting on the Orlando expansion, Casaburi said, “We’re continuing to add units in Jacksonville, Fort Myers and Naples, so Orlando is a natural progression of our brand’s Florida development. We plan on expanding each of these markets until we have a Retro Fitness location within every 3-5 miles in populated areas – similar to our footprint in the New York City Metro area and New Jersey.”

Recently named a top franchise investment by Forbes magazine, Retro Fitness has evolved from a regional Northeast gym concept into a national fitness system with development efforts focused on Florida, along with a few select states across the United States. The fast-growing fitness franchise opened 20 clubs in 2014, boosting its membership base to 500,000-plus. Already, Retro Fitness has opened 30 locations nationwide this year, including two locations in Jacksonville.

Outside Casaburi’s Orlando locations, Retro Fitness is expanding in the market through franchising with local entrepreneurs and has a few open territories still available in Orange County. Retro Fitness franchise owners enjoy the flexibility to open in 10,000 to 16,000 square-foot spaces designed to scale back on square footage without cutting back on services and staff. This results in lower costs for both owners and members, while still offering high-quality equipment and amenities.

At the opening of the gyms’ preview centers later this summer, the company will announce new amenities that will be featured at some of the Orlando locations. Outside these added amenities, each Retro Fitness location offers industry-leading circuit, weight training equipment and cardio machines; group fitness classes; certified personal trainers; full-service locker rooms; a supervised children’s playroom; the latest in tanning technology; a full-service pro-shop; a Retro Blends Smoothie Bar and the popular Retro Cardio Theater.

The gyms offer two types of memberships; the basic membership for $19.99 per month and the VIP membership for $29.99 per month, which includes classes, the children’s playroom and tanning. Both memberships give members access to any of its 135-plus locations nationwide.

“Our business model is built on delivering members the quality and value they deserve,” said Casaburi. “No matter which location our members walk into, they can always expect a fun, friendly, clean and non-intimidating work-out environment. That’s the key to our brand’s success.”
