ZIPS Dry Cleaners Ranked Amongst Top Franchises for Second Consecutive Year

October 21, 2015 // Franchising.com // GREENBELT, Md. – ZIPS Dry Cleaners – an aggressively expanding dry cleaning franchise known for its same-day, one-price business model – has once again landed on Franchise Times magazine’s Top 200+ list of the largest franchise systems in the United States, which also ranks the next 300 systems for a total of 500 rankings.

ZIPS was ranked #410 on the 2015 list.

Recognized as the most respected ranking in franchising, the Top 200+ is an annual list of the 200 largest franchise systems in the U.S. by global system wide sales, based on the previous year’s performance. ZIPS ended 2014 with $40 million in sales.

“Our continued efforts to grow are being acknowledged with this honor, for a second year in a row,” said Reid Bechtle, CEO of ZIPS Dry Cleaners. “Franchise Time’s list of the industry’s top franchises is a trusted source and we couldn’t be more pleased to be included.”

ZIPS began in the Washington, D.C. area in 2002 when a group of independent dry cleaners combined their businesses to cut costs. The company was owned by 14 partners until 2013, when JPB Capital of Columbia, Md., bought a large portion of the chain and brought in Bechtle as CEO. Today, ZIPS has 40 stores stretching across Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and is continuing to distinguish itself in the market by charging $2.29 for every garment.

A customer can have any item of clothing dry cleaned for $2.29. It doesn’t matter if the item is a necktie, a wedding dress or a pair of pants, the price is $2.29, almost half the industry average. In addition, garments are cleaned on-site, allowing for same-day service.

In an industry that often coincides with negative sentiments in regards to eco-friendliness, ZIPS Dry Cleaners also strives to become a leader with sustained efforts to minimize harm on the environment through technology and strict standards. The bags at ZIPS are biodegradable and use far less plastic than the industry standard, creating 90 percent less waste than most other operations. The company also uses 75 percent less cleaning solution, at the same time avoiding common chemicals like chlorine bleach.
