Local Business Couple Adds Spatula To Their Tool Belt

Marion entrepreneurs borrow on construction company talents to build thriving Huddle House restaurant business.

July 21, 2016 // Franchising.com // MARION, Ill. – Robert Jellen and his wife Pamela have combined a hammer and nails with a passion for “Any Meal. Any Time” to open their own Huddle House restaurant in Marion, Illinois. The couple made their food debut in April with the successful launch of a brand new Huddle House restaurant at 305 Comfort Drive, giving them two completely different but equally successful businesses at the same time.

In addition to their restaurant, the Jellens own a construction company in Creal Springs, Illinois, which came in handy during construction of their new restaurant.

Robert Jellen says they chose Marion as home for their Huddle House because of the town’s size and sense of community. And the decision proved to be a wonderful recipe for success as the community responded with one of the biggest grand opening weeks in Huddle House’s national history.

“Communities like Marion are important to us, and Pamela and I are proud that we’ve been able to create more local jobs because of Huddle House,” Robert said. “Starting from the ground up and building our own restaurant was challenging, but the outcome has been worth it. We already have a group of loyal customers who have turned the restaurant into one of their regular gathering places.”

The Jellens are a growing example of the power of the Huddle House franchise model that provides the training and support needed to create successful franchisees regardless of their background.

“Communities like Marion are part of our heritage which makes it a perfect location for Huddle House, but what really drives our success are dedicated franchisees like Robert and Pamela,” said Christina Chambers, Vice President of Franchise Development for Huddle House. “Their passion for the business and the community is why residents of all ages quickly embrace the restaurant as a place they can enjoy great food with family and friends at any time of the day.”
