Teriyaki Madness Moves to Top Half of Inc. 5000 List with Three-Year Sales Growth of 171%

Asian-Inspired Fast Casual Franchise Soars on Annual List of Fastest-Growing Private Companies

August 29, 2017 // Franchising.com // NEW YORK - Teriyaki Madness, the fastest-growing Asian-inspired fast casual food franchise in the country, has made its way to the top half of Inc. 5000 list. Company executives say the brand’s ranking will continue upward as it fills the nation’s insatiable demand for big, healthy and flavorful customizable meal options.

Teriyaki Madness, with almost 50 teriyaki shops around the country and franchise agreements signed for more than 150 new locations, ranked No. 2,133 on the 36th annual prestigious ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. Throughout the first two quarters of 2017 alone, Teriyaki Madness opened 14 new locations, breaking into new cities and states including Northern California, Metro Atlanta, Montana, New York, South Carolina and Miami.

Hunger Cry for Big, Bold & Healthy

“Communities all over the country are embracing our concept, which is reflective in our sales numbers, our system growth and our impressive position on the Inc. 5000 list,” said Teriyaki Madness CEO Michael Haith. “Guests come back multiple times a week to enjoy our big bowls of bold, flavorful food. There’s clear demand for our delicious, healthy food at a great price. Next year I wouldn’t be surprised to see Teriyaki Madness jump significantly higher on the list.”

The 2017 Inc. 5000, unveiled online at Inc.com and with the top 500 companies featured in the September issue of Inc. (available on newsstands August 16) is the most competitive crop in the list’s history. The average company on the list achieved a mind-boggling three-year average growth of 481%. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue is $206 billion, and the companies on the list collectively generated 619,500 jobs over the past three years. Complete results of the Inc. 5000, including company profiles and an interactive database that can be sorted by industry, region, and other criteria, can be found at www.inc.com/inc5000.

How Inc. Ranks Companies

The Inc. 5000 list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment - its independent small and midsized businesses. The 2017 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2013 to 2016. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2013. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent - not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies - as of December 31, 2016. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2013 is $100,000; the minimum for 2016 is $2 million.

"The Inc. 5000 is the most persuasive evidence I know that the American Dream is still alive,” said Inc. President and Editor-In-Chief Eric Schurenberg. “The founders and CEOs of the Inc. 5000 tell us they think determination, risk taking, and vision were the keys to their success, and I believe them.”

5-Year Prediction: National Fixture

Teriyaki Madness (known affectionately by its loyal fans as “T-MAD”) will be a fixture in markets nationwide within the next five years, predicts Haith. “T-MAD has style and personality. Our restaurants are thought of as “hidden gems” within the neighborhood – a mainstay in the diet rotations of those looking for fresh ingredients, new food options and large portions that fill you up, and more importantly, are hugely satisfying.”
