Pancheros Mexican Grill Marks Major Franchising Milestones
Hosts First National Franchisee Conference, Named to Franchise Times Top 200+ List and 2018 Multi-Unit 50 Rankings
October 10, 2018 // Franchising.com // CORALVILLE, Iowa - Pancheros Mexican Grill is spicing up the fast-casual sector as the brand announces today the achievement of three significant franchising milestones.
Indicative of the brand’s growing presence and success in both new and existing markets across the country, the trifecta of franchise achievements first kicked off with the brand’s first annual franchisee conference, which was held September 18-20 in Chicago.
The three-day conference included extensive training, educational seminars and opportunities to discuss best practices across the franchise system. The national conference brought Pancheros franchisees and corporate team members from across the country together for the first time to celebrate the brand’s system-wide successes, including a “Franchisee of the Year Award” which was given to Pancheros franchise owner Lou Kathrakis in Shelton, Connecticut.
“The first Pancheros National Franchise Conference was a success and truly set forth a precedent for the exchange of best practices across the system,” said Rodney Anderson, Founder and CEO of Pancheros. “Having the opportunity to come together in one place to discuss all aspects related to Pancheros ownership certainly showcased how much talent we have across our franchise system."
In addition to a successful first franchisee conference, Pancheros is celebrating the brand’s addition to this year’s Franchise Times’ Top 200+ list, which is an exclusive ranking of the 500 largest franchises. This recognition validates the brand’s overall success in the franchising industry across the past year.
Using a combination of companies’ voluntary reports and the most recent franchise disclosure documents, the Franchise Times Top 200+ is an annual ranking of the 500 largest franchise systems in the United States by global system-wide sales, based on the previous year's performance.
In addition to the Franchise Times Top 200+ list, Pancheros has also been named to the Multi-Unit Franchisee 2018 Multi-Unit 50 list, ranking number 5 in the “Top 50 Brands By Percentage of Multi-Unit Franchisees” category.
“We are humbled to achieve these incredible milestones,” added Anderson. “As Pancheros continues to grow in our existing markets as well as expand into new ones, we look forward to continuing this momentum.”

The beginning of Pancheros dates back to 1992 when Rodney Anderson opened the brand’s first restaurant in Iowa City, Iowa. Originally modeled after the Chicago taquerias that Anderson had visited often with his friends during his teenage years, the brand’s pursuit of constructing a better built burrito launched Pancheros into an evolution based on simplicity and fresh-pressed tortillas.
Since it’s humble beginnings, Pancheros has earned a loyal following for redefining the standards of modern burritos by using fresh-pressed tortillas and perfectly-mixed ingredients with the help of BOB the Tool, a unique plastic spatula used to carefully mix ingredients together to create the perfect taste in every bite.
Amid its popularity, the brand has successfully grown from its roots and today a robust franchising program has led to approximately 70 locations across 13 states.
