Green Home Solutions and BetterAir Partners with Habitat for Humanity New York City to Sanitize Sydney Home Apartments

56 apartments appointed for low to moderate-income families in the largest multi-family development built by Habitat for Humanity

May 05, 2021 // Franchising.com // STATE COLLEGE, Penn. - Green Home Solutions, the first franchise to exclusively specialize in indoor-air quality has partnered with Habitat for Humanity New York City (Habitat NYC) to donate an extensive disinfecting service to the Sydney House project worth upwards of $35,000. The leader in indoor air quality services has worked to disinfect each of the 56 living spaces and multiple common areas prior to the tenants’ arrivals. The top-tier, full room disinfection that Green Home Solutions provides uses an EPA registered, proprietary plant-based enzyme solution that is known to kill more than 99.999% of all viruses and bacteria, including coronavirus.

Green Home Solutions has been a proud partner of Habitat for Humanity International since 2018 and joined forces with BetterAir to ensure that the Sydney House helps New York City families build healthier lives by reducing the risk of spreading pollutants or hazardous chemicals from outside or within the multifamily building.

“Our mission at Green Home Solutions is to improve air quality and better the lives of the people we work with, and we are grateful that we are given the opportunity to work with BetterAir to make air better for Habitat for Humanity and the residents of Sydney House,” said Jeff Panella, CEO of Green Home Solutions. “Working alongside our dedicated franchisees and the team from BetterAir to make Sydney House the cleanest, healthiest living complex in New York City has been an honor.”

Sydney House, now home to 56 low-to moderate-income families is the largest multi-family development ever built by a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.  The first development financed under HPD’s Open Door homeownership program, part of Mayor de Blasio’s Housing 2.0 plan to create and preserve 300,000 affordable homes by 2026, Sydney House represents the best of federal, state, and local policy in partnership with the private sector supporting affordable homeownership in New York City.

Located at 839-843 Tilden Street, the development consists of 26 one-bedroom apartments, 23 two-bedroom apartments, and 7 three-bedroom apartments as well as a shared 2,000 sq. ft. recreation space. The building was designed by Union Street Studios, LLC and constructed by Mega Contracting. Building amenities include on-site laundry, homeowner storage, parking for vehicles and bicycles, and a green roof. Located near the 2 and 5 subway lines, homeowners will also have easy access to the nearby Bronx Zoo, Bronx Park, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Park, and City Island.

Sydney House residents are all first-time homebuyers, providing 1% cash down payments and accessing a Habitat for Humanity 2% fixed-interest-rate mortgage made possible through financing from the State of New York Mortgage Agency. Homeowners also fulfilled Habitat for Humanity's “sweat equity” program and participated in financial and homeownership education.
