Rapidly Expanding Premier Day Spa Franchise Highlights Husband-Wife Duo who Purchased Their Naperville Spa with a Goal of Securing a Bright Future
August 11, 2021 // Franchising.com // Naperville, Illinois - Peggy and Don Anderson were searching for improved work-life balance and a secure financial future in 2017 when they purchased their MassageLuXe franchise in Naperville, Illinois. Opening the business was one of many major life events during a rollercoaster year. With clear goals in place and an eye on a bright future, the duo powered through to open and manage a thriving Chicago-area spa.
“Don and I were married, then my father passed away, and then we became business owners. It was a lot all at once.” Peggy says, adding that the loss of her dad got her and Don thinking about their future. “We’re not in our 20s by any means. We realized we need to think about what we want to do in retirement and form a plan to make those goals possible.”
So, Don came to her with a proposal - literally. “First, I asked Peggy to marry me,” Don says. “I also wanted her to be able to do something she loved, and we both knew it was time for her to make a job change. As we researched MassageLuXe, we became convinced it was the right opportunity for us.”

“What better place to promote our own healthy lifestyle than this brand which is all about self-care and rejuvenation,” Peggy said, “I had been a retail manager for years and was burned out, working too many hours. I knew it had to change for my well-being.”
Every team has a coach, and Don admits, that’s Peggy, “I’m still working at my job as an electrical engineer. I come in the spa from time to time to help out. Some of the staff might see me and ask a question. I tell them we have the same boss. Go see Peggy!”
With her years of experience managing people, the role of owner and manager has been an easy transition for Peggy. “I respect our staff. I don’t micro-manage. I let them do their job and they do it very well. Our massage therapists are top notch. I appreciate and applaud their great work.”
The hard work pays off. Peggy and Don are pleased with the growth they’ve enjoyed since opening in 2017. Being a MassageLuXe franchisee has also allowed Peggy the freedom to work from home when she chooses, name her own hours, and still savor her favorite aspect of working. “I am a people person, so the interaction with staff and customers is the highlight of my day,” she says. “There are certainly challenges, but being a franchisee gives me the chance to breathe and enjoy life.”
And where will the “newlyweds” go from here? Professionally they are building a loyal customer base and continually looking for opportunities to grow their business. Personally, Don says, they are loving the freedom franchising affords them to work from anywhere. “We get in our RV every chance we get and visit our family. We especially love spoiling our seven grandchildren.”
Peggy and Don plan on semi-retirement soon, and hope to travel the U.S. in their RV. It’s the best of all worlds; they have the benefits of franchise ownership while exploring the country with rescue dogs Barney and Maggie at their sides. For now, they feel very fortunate to be living their best life, partnering with a brand that values that sentiment.
