Haymarket, Virginia Franchise Owner Duran Lawson Named to 2022 List

July 18, 2022 // Franchising.com // HAYMARKET, Va. - Zaxby’s is celebrating the success and spotlight of Virginia-based franchisee Duran Lawson. The owner of the Zaxby’s location in Haymarket, Va., Lawson was chosen as a 2022 Franchise Rock Star by Franchise Business Review.

“This recognition is an incredible honor,” Lawson said after his inclusion on the list of Franchise Rock Stars. “From our employees here at home to the support of the Zaxby’s leadership team, there are so many people who have been essential to our success so early in this journey.”

Lawson was named a Freshman Award winner as part of the Franchise Rock Stars list, earning recognition from a list of more than 200 nominations. His first Zaxby’s location opened in 2019, just seven months before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted business across the nation. Lawson attributes his success to the Zaxby’s brand and its culture of teamwork.

“Being a part of a great brand that was able to be flexible and adapt quickly is one of the reasons we were able to have success during the pandemic,” Lawson said in his interview for FBR. “The thing I like most about my business is the people (both customers and employees)! I love being a part of our local community.”

That commitment to community and culture is what prompted Zaxby’s leadership to nominate Lawson for the award.

“The Zaxby’s brand is beloved throughout the U.S. not only because of our food but because of the experience,” said Tray Doster, Zaxby’s Director of Franchise Business Development. “Duran is a shining example of the success our franchisees find by treating customers and staff like family.
