Pancheros Mexican Grill Celebrates with Franchise Owners from Across The Country

Recognizes 30th Birthday by Honoring Franchisee Accomplishments and Focuses on Strength of Brand’s Future with Digital Ordering

October 17, 2022 // Franchising.com // CORALVILLE, Iowa - Pancheros Mexican Grill recently held its annual conference in the home market that started it all, Iowa City, Iowa.

Founder and President, Rodney Anderson was 24 and fresh out of graduate school when he opened the first Pancheros restaurant right across from the University of Iowa campus in 1992. That location is still standing today, and franchisees had the opportunity to see where it all began, amid the brand's 30th anniversary year. The milestone anniversary was a big highlight celebrated throughout the gathering.

“It was so special to be together as a brand with our dedicated collection of franchisees,” said Rodney Anderson, founder and president of Pancheros. “It presented not only a great opportunity to catch up and connect, but also to learn and grow from each other and celebrate successes.”

While the conference provided an opportunity to honor three decades of accomplishments, it also served as an opportunity to look ahead to the future. Innovations in operations, marketing as well as the menu development were key discussion points. The brand also revealed its “Build Your Better” marketing campaign, a 2023 initiative that will enhance awareness, store traffic, and digital ordering. In addition to a large group of franchisees, the Pancheros corporate team was in attendance, along with vendor partners.

“Our franchisees came to the conference already feeling very positive about our brand, largely due to the strength of restaurant performance this year,” said Alexis Puebla, Director of Digital Marketing at Pancheros. "The group was buzzing with excitement after we shared our new brand campaign, "Build Your Better,' as well as other initiatives we have accomplished since the start of the pandemic. It was great to look ahead at what's to come."

To honor top performing franchisees, the brand continued its tradition of announcing a franchisee of the year. Husband and wife duo, Shelly and Tyson Robinson, were selected as the 2022 winners for their thriving locations in West Des Moines and Johnston, Iowa. The couple has been with Pancheros since 2015, though Shelly’s family has been rooted in the brand for nearly 20 years.

“Something that my husband and I take pride in is being a daily part of our locations operations,” said Shelly Robinson. “It is important that we are active operators for our staff, many of which have been with us for numerous years. We are honored to be selected as franchisees of the year, and cannot wait to continue building on our strong performance.”

One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to visit the University of Iowa’s historic Kinnick stadium. As a proud sponsor of Iowa Hawkeye athletics, all in attendance were able to walk onto the field and participate in the Pancheros "Burrito Lift". The Burrito Lift is a tradition at all Hawkeye home games, in which fans "lift" a Pancheros burrito while "Pump It Up" by Endor plays.

“The energy that everyone felt by coming together only strengthens the devotion that we all have for the brand,” said Anderson. “Feedback has been extremely positive from our franchisees and we can’t wait to get back together next year. We are already working on the 2023 annual conference”.

Pancheros has earned a loyal following for redefining the standards of modern burritos by using fresh-pressed tortillas and perfectly-mixed ingredients with the help of BOB the Tool, a unique plastic spatula used to carefully mix ingredients together to create the perfect taste in every bite.
