The Community of Madrid leads the franchise in Spain, with a turnover of 13,411.5 million euros and generating 148,218 jobs

September 03, 2024 // Franchising.com // The report “Franchising in Spain 2024”, prepared by the Spanish Franchise Association (AEF), analyses, among other variables, the situation of the franchise system in the different autonomous communities. In this sense, the Community of Madrid currently leads all the statistics relating to this business model in our country, in terms of the number of franchising headquarters, turnover, open establishments and jobs generated.

Thus, the Madrid community is the one with the largest number of franchising headquarters installed in its territory, with a total of 423, followed by Catalonia, with 320; the Valencian Community, with 171; Andalusia, with 156, and Galicia, with 48 headquarters.

In turn, the franchises of the Community of Madrid are the ones with the highest turnover, with a total of 13,411.5 million euros. Next are Catalonia, with 7,052.5 million; the Balearic Islands, with 1,417.6 million; The Basque Country, with 1,308.9 million, and the Valencian Community, with 1,184.3 million euros.

The Community of Madrid also leads the data regarding job creation, since its franchising headquarters employ 148,218 people, compared to 81,514 in Catalonia; 18,794 in the Valencian Community; 16,140 in Andalusia, and 13,127 in the Basque Country.

Finally, the franchising headquarters of the Madrid community are those with the largest number of establishments open throughout Spain, with a total of 30,678, followed by those in Catalonia, with 22,269; those in the Valencian Community, with 6,141; those in Andalusia, with 5,481, and those in the Basque Country, with 3,119.

When assessing these data, Eduardo Abadía, Executive Director of the AEF, states that “today franchising is well established and consolidated in autonomous communities such as Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Andalusia or Galicia, with the Community of Madrid continuing to lead this business system, since its 423 headquarters are those with the highest turnover, the most locations open throughout Spain and the most jobs generated.”
