Batteries Plus Announces Sweet 16 in Inaugural Plus Games: A Gamified Approach to Boost Franchise Performance

February 24, 2025 // Franchising.com // HARTLAND, Wis. – Batteries Plus has announced its Sweet 16 in an innovative initiative to drive franchisee performance and team expertise: The Plus Games. This new program is designed to gamify training and sales goals, bringing together the top-performing stores in a celebration of expertise, team-building, and customer service.

The Plus Games Sweet 16 is currently active, as the top 16 stores from across the system go head-to-head in a series of timed, skill-based challenges. Through April, these stores are competing to advance to the Elite Eight, Final Four, and ultimately the championship event, which will award over $30,000 in cash and other prizes at PlusCon, the company’s 2025 National Convention in Las Vegas, NV on May 14-15, 2025.

The Sweet 16 highlights Batteries Plus’s stores from diverse regions. Among the standout locations are Corey Robinson’s Davenport, IA, store, which has been a community staple for more than 30 years, and Trent Labry’s Carencro, LA, location, which has made a name for itself in commercial sales since opening less than five years ago. Additionally, the Tampa area is strongly represented by the Epps Group, a multi-unit ownership team with multiple stores qualifying for the Sweet 16. These stores and others exemplify the spirit of the Plus Games by demonstrating dedication to Batteries Plus’s core mission of being the Power Experts.

“At Batteries Plus, expertise is at the heart of everything we do,” said Jon Sica, Chief Operating Officer of Batteries Plus. “The Plus Games were created to reward and celebrate that expertise, motivating our teams to deliver exceptional performance and service through fun, competitive challenges. By fostering this environment, we’re building a stronger culture of excellence and collaboration across the franchise system.”

The competition kicked off with a rigorous performance evaluation over the last three months, focusing on key metrics such as:

  • Total sales
  • Key fob sales
  • Flashlight sales
  • Lifetime watch battery attachment rate
  • Percentage of tickets with an attachment

The highest-performing stores from previous qualifying rounds have advanced to the Sweet 16 and will now compete in store-hosted relays. Challenges will test their technical expertise, such as screen protector installations, battery installations, and key fob programming, as well as operational skills like setting up product displays according to planograms.

These inaugural games span the country, with the Sweet 16 being narrowed down from the brand’s entire franchise system. The Elite Eight and Final Four will compete in relay events within Batteries Plus’s training facilities in Pewaukee, Wisconsin, before the winner earns their trip to Las Vegas for PlusCon.

Beyond the excitement of competition, the Plus Games emphasize the importance of knowledge and training, ensuring franchisees and their teams are equipped to deliver exceptional service to customers. By gamifying key training and sales goals, the program reinforces Batteries Plus’s commitment to supporting its franchisees in driving store performance.

“This isn’t just about winning,” explains Jason Moss, VP of Store Development and Training for Batteries Plus. “The Plus Games provide franchisees with the tools and incentives they need to rally their teams, build expertise, and ultimately deliver a better experience for their customers. It’s a celebration of the skills and dedication that make our franchisees successful.”
