Altitude Trampoline Park CEO Mike Rotondo is bullish on the brand’s growth and expansion plans for 2022. “We plan to open in 10 new markets and are closing in on our goal of having 100 parks open by the end of the year,” he says.

There’s good reason for him to be so optimistic. A recent industry study found the health and wellness industry was expected to hit $102 billion globally in 2021, with the U.S. showing an annual growth rate of 4.5%. The brand is coming off a successful 2021 when it opened seven new locations and signed multiple franchise development deals in markets like Georgia and Florida. Rotondo also points to a new guest membership program and strengthened local marketing programs that were initially launched in 2019 and reached their full potential throughout 2021. The results drove double-digit sales increases compared to 2019 at several of the brand’s locations.

We asked Rotondo to answer a few questions about the brand, its goals and plans, and what the brand looks for in franchisees.

Describe your strategic growth plans for 2022? Building on the momentum we generated at the end of 2021, Altitude Trampoline Park plans to open in 10 new markets in 2022. We’re closing in on our goal of having 100 parks open by the end of the year. Our strong, growing leadership team worked tirelessly with new and existing park suppliers to update park equipment, attractions and concessions, as well as create additional revenue streams in the form of our widely successful membership program. 

What are the goals? Our goals for 2022 are to bring Altitude to more communities by awarding 40 new agreements, increase the numbers of families that will make active-family-fun a part of their routine by growing our Membership program to over 200,000 members, and to drive new programs that will help our franchisees grow their profits. 

What role does the conversion strategy play in this? Through conversion and acquisitions, this has cleared the way for our brand to enter into attractive markets where there are readily available parks and demand for our brand to enhance these parks for new guests. 

How do you plan to execute these growth plans? Our strategic franchise growth plan targets markets throughout the country, with specific priority for new locations in the Midwest, Great Plains, and Southwest to further increase Altitude’s national footprint. As the only active indoor entertainment concept that focuses primarily on the 3 to 12-year old age demographic, we’ve worked to ensure that our franchise opportunity is competitive with others in our industry through innovations around digital, in-park guest experiences, and additional revenue streams. 

How is your leadership team qualified for this growth mission? In addition to my 30-plus years of experience in the franchise industry with concepts such as Tropical Smoothie Café and Edible Arrangements, our President and Chief Marketing Officer, Amy Phillips,  brings her 20-plus years of family entertainment marketing experience, brand activation and operations to the table, having catapulted brands like Main Event and Dave & Busters to the top. Robert Morris, our VP of Development, has built the systems and process to convert existing parks based on his experience from Andretti Indoor Karting & Games and Kings Dining & Entertainment. We continue to make quality additions to our leadership team which are the key to rapidly expanding our presence nationwide. 

What do you look for in a franchisee? At Altitude, we pride ourselves on our values system and company culture, which is to work happy. Our franchisees are not simply investing in a proven business model where they get paid in ‘Smiles’ and dollars but in making a positive impact in their local communities. We offer flexibility with both multi-unit and single-unit ownership models, and are looking for experienced business leaders that love kids and want to promote our mission of active family fun.

What areas/territories are you seeking to grow in? Why these areas? We’re looking to grow all across the U.S., but are currently focusing on growing our presence in secondary and tertiary markets in Minnesota, Iowa, Michigan, South and North Dakota, Indiana, Tennessee, Iowa, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. We’re looking to introduce the Altitude brand and mission of active family fun to the residents of these new markets over the next year or so. 

Any incentives available to franchisees? Explain. Altitude Trampoline Park is a member of the VetFran program, which allows military veterans to receive 50% off of their franchise fee. 

How do you support franchisees? Our team is committed to providing top-notch support to franchisees through a comprehensive support system, which includes staff training, accounting, real estate, financing, design and construction, marketing, and communications resources. Our franchisees network also has access to our network of preferred vendors to support concessions, apparel, and other sales channels. 

What do you offer that your competitors don’t? Brand differentiators? Altitude parks are built around the idea of “free play,” in which our target demographic of children ages 3 to 12-years-old have the ability to run around freely in an open, safe space. Our cohesive park design allows parents and staff to see them from all angles of the park, cutting down on labor intensity  and long-term expenses. Our attractions are designed so that children and parents of all ages, heights, and weights can reach exhilarating heights together.
