The brand is coming off a successful year where its numbers saw significant growth despite the pandemic, and is now heading into 2021 with a number of new initiatives it plans to roll out. That’s why the company approved 42 new franchisees last year, has more than 60 locations in the pipeline, and expects 60 units to open this year. Unit sales soared during the 2020 pandemic. Franchisees ramped up their drive-thru and walk-up business for a rise of 8.9 percent, 13.9 percent, and 11.3 percent in quarters 2, 3, and 4. Overall, the brand’s top line increased 7.5 percent in 2020 compared to 2019. All these numbers are a reflection of a top-brand that offers a proven model that gets results for its franchisees. Checkers & Rally’s has always had an edge on the competition courtesy of the brand’s unique modular building, smaller footprint, and signature multiple drive-thru lanes. The pandemic further highlighted the brand’s strengths in the face of just about any economic force.
Now the brand is turning its eye to refinements that will help take things to the next level. For example, last year the brand began dedicating “e-commerce” lanes at its corporate stores to meet the increasing demand brought on by Covid-19. Many franchisees followed suit and experienced great success. Now the brand is working on new design elements that will improve the customer experience at the drive-thru, walk-up windows, patios, and more. There will be enhanced lighting and landscaping for customer safety and appeal, and QR codes available for easy scan of the refreshed menu. Inside, a kitchen remodel is focused on creating better efficiencies for employees and the placement of the redesigned equipment they use. Customers will enjoy the reworked seating area and bathrooms.
Later this summer the brand will officially roll out its new “restaurant of the future.” It’s sure to be another innovation success and just the next step in advancing the proven brand.
