Franchisees Discover Why Discovery Point Child Development Centers is the Ideal Family Fit For Business Partners
With the ever-challenging quest for work/life balance, franchisees with Discovery Point Child Care Development Centers are finding a brand that is the ideal family fit.
"Discovery Point allows flexibility between work and family and it is one of the most positive businesses I know," says Carmen Mesa, an 11-year franchisee, who operates two centers in Pasco, Florida, with husband and business partner Roman Mesa. "We get to impact our community and our new parents look to us to be a big part of their children's lives."
Founded in the Atlanta-area in 1988, Discovery Point has expanded to nearly 50 centers as a proven brand with a whole-child approach to instruction and an unrivaled franchise support system. Discovery Point is on the road to growth as a national leader in the child care industry - an industry that is projected to reach $52.5 billion by 2021.
"We have married owners, sister partners, and owners who bring their own children to the center each day. It truly is a 'family business,'" says Andrea Moore, Discovery Point's Executive Director of Operations and Training. "At the heart of that business is growth, learning, and special milestones--children taking first steps, children learning to speak, and children making first friends in a learning-rich environment."
Before joining the Discovery Point family as franchisees, Carmen was an assistant vice president at Citi Bank with a lengthy career in banking and finance, while Roman worked in engineering and management. With six children of their own, Discovery Point offered the couple an entrepreneurial opportunity to share their passion for the education and well-being of children.
Discovery Point is the only childcare franchise with a flat fee system, and they provided strategic guidance and turnkey support from the start, says Carmen.
"When we got started, we had no idea how to put something this big together," explains Carmen. "We had never dealt with the building or construction or the state/county regulations. Without the support of the corporate team, we would not be as successful. We had everything at our fingertips, including furnishings, educational toys, and curriculum. They had everything I needed to open the doors, things I never would have thought about. They said they were a turnkey business, but I never imagined how prepared I would be when we opened our doors."
Discovery Point also "allowed us to make the center our own," adds Carmen. The franchise focuses on letting the franchisee deliver their own personal version of quality childcare. Before becoming franchisees, the Mesas served as state licensed foster parents for Shepherd Care Services in South Florida, caring for several babies and children, ages three days to two years old, and adopted three children as their own. As Discovery Point owners, the Mesas focus on providing quality education and care with an emphasis on social and emotional skills, to enable children to succeed later in school and throughout their life.
"Not only have I found a job I am passionate about, I also have been financially successful--more so than my previous corporate jobs," notes Carmen. "I have never felt more fulfilled than I do with Discovery Point. Every day isn't easy, but every day is rewarding. The parents are so appreciative of what we are doing, and you get to see children flourish from diapers to seeing them walking and talking. For me, it's been an amazing experience."
