Operator Cuts a Clear Path to Success with Sport Clips

Sport Clips is the nation’s leading men’s and boys’ hair care provider for good reason. The brand has been a pioneer in the market and created a proven concept that treats franchisees as partners and provides all the tools they need to be successful. Need more proof, the brand was just named a top 30 franchise in the annual Entrepreneur “Franchise 500” ranking. Sport Clips has been among the esteemed ranking’s top 50 for more than a decade now.

It was a mixture of all these reasons – and more – that brought multi-unit franchisee Trevor Butcher to the Sport Clips brand. The former insurance agent and distribution company CFO now operates seven of the brand’s locations in North Alabama. He’s done all of this in less than two years.

“I was a client for years and I like businesses that are ‘essential’ and have ‘renewals’,” he says. “Unless you are balding you need to have your haircut on a regular basis.” Butcher says he discussed the prospect with his wife and they agreed to move forward with the idea. That’s when he really dug into the brand’s values and saw they aligned so closely with his own.

Butcher joined the franchise during a time of global uncertainty, and still speaks praises to the support he received that helped him transition into the brand and continues to help him grow. “I came on kind of during the tail end of the covid phase, so for me it was a lot of virtual training and zoom calls. Normally you travel to Texas and train in person for a week, and there is pre course work and follow up training after the class. They are back in full swing now and they even offered a follow up in person training for me to attend.” Butcher says other team leaders at the brand, including Gordan Logan (Sport Clips founder) and Edward Logan (CEO & president), are happy to talk and everyone wants to see franchisees succeed.

Butcher is keen on saying, “You get back what you put into this.” He says there is a time commitment required and working with people is another important aspect of the business. Work hard, recruit well, and problem solve and you will find success, he says.

Sport Clips offers franchisees the potential for growth and income opportunities. “I love that I feel like I am in control of how and when we grow and if I want to run three stores, I can do that. If I think I can run 300 stores they are fully supportive of that as well,” says Butcher. For now, he says his first milestone is to reach 10 stores, then 20, and eventually 100 stores.

“Sport Clips is a model that works for franchisees, clients, stylists and team members as a business ownership opportunity and local employer,” says CEO and President Edward Logan. “In some 1,900 communities and neighborhoods, you’ll find Sport Clips locations that support local and national philanthropies, host highly-skilled coaches and on-going training for team member professional development, and offer convenient, walk-in hair care services for clients.”

There are almost 1,900 Sport Clips stores now open in all 50 states in the U.S. and throughout Canada.
