Why Marugame Udon Will Be The Dominant Fast Casual Japanese And Asian Brand In The US For Years To Come
As challenging a year that we all know 2020 has been, we are all compelled as restaurateurs to continue to look ahead and learn from the lessons of the past. Marugame Udon is no different but with the strength of our partnership with one of the most respected international brands and a team of very determined Marugame Udon USA investors and operators, we forge forward into 2021 with great expectations and energy. In late August this year we unveiled our newest prototype in Carrollton, Texas and for the past three months have been exhibiting our ability to pivot into a more takeaway friendly, third party and on-line usable brand, with sales in those areas approaching 35% of total sales. We have been able to do that without sacrificing the dine in experience as the attached photos clearly indicate. Our goal of being as flexible as possible to how our guests want to use us remains our collective obsession. Asian food in general has always rivaled pizza as the most desired foods to have either delivered or eaten in the home for take out and we continue to evolve our Japanese menu to carry on this tradition! Our noodle soups, our savory noodle bowls, our wide selection of tempura, and our katsu sando items all travel well and gain in popularity as we expand.
Speaking of expansion, in 2021 we will introduce at least two new markets to our Marugame brand, including Houston and Phoenix along with new restaurants in the planning stages for northern California (San Ramon) and southern California (Torrance), and final negotiations in place for another location in Dallas, San Mateo, CA and more exciting spots. Our interest in securing relationships for franchisees in major metropolitan areas like Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Washington, DC, and Atlanta continues to be a top priority and those willing to come to Dallas to see our new prototype and meet our dynamic team will only find themselves more enthusiastic about the future of this wonderful brand. Our team is one year stronger, one year smarter, and one year better prepared to direct this leading fast casual brand into 2021 and beyond. What we have learned about our design, our capability to adjust our service style and our overall cost per restaurant have been invaluable lessons learned and geared up to be applied. Our average unit volumes will only grow along with these learning curves.
