Based in Boston, Massachusetts, Uno Restaurant Holdings Corporation includes 110 company-owned and franchised Uno Pizzeria & Grill restaurants located in 22 states, the District of Columbia, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Honduras, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. UNO's is all about the joy of sharing a hand-crafted pizza – from our famous Chicago Deep Dish, which we invented in 1943, to our Chicago Thin Crust. The Company also operates Uno Dué Go, a fast-casual concept, Uno Express, a quick service concept, and Uno Foods, a consumer-packaged foods business which supplies airlines, movie theaters, hotels, airports, travel plazas, schools and supermarkets with both frozen and refrigerated private-label foods and UNO branded products.
In 1943, when Ike Sewell opened a restaurant at the corner of Ohio Street and Wabash Avenue in Chicago, Americans ate pizza primarily as a snack. Ike figured that if you combined some of Italy's old, authentic recipes with impressive quantities of the finest meats, fresh cheeses, ripe vegetables and flavorful spices, pizza would become a hearty meal. It was the start of an American tradition - the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Ike's Original Deep Dish Pizza has been imitated many times, but never quite duplicated.
