Employers: Cash is Most Common Holiday Bonus

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (PRWEB) November 18, 2015 - Express Employment Professionals released new survey results revealing what employers plan to give for holiday bonuses this year.

In a recent poll of businesses, 23 percent planned to offer cash and 13 percent will hand out gift cards. Some said they will give extra days off (three percent), tangible gifts (two percent) or pay raises (one percent). An additional 18 percent say they will give some combination of benefits. Thirty-nine percent reported that they will not give holiday bonuses.

Workers were also asked what type of bonus they want. In a survey of Express associates, a combination of benefits topped the list at 45 percent, while 22 percent said cash and 21 percent said a pay raise. Eight percent chose extra days off. Gift cards were not very popular at three percent, and only one percent chose tangible gifts.

“The holidays are always a time for businesses to say an extra ‘thank you’ to the people who keep their companies running. Employees certainly appreciate the added generosity and employers appreciate the opportunity to show their gratitude,” said said Bob Funk, CEO of Express, and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

“Of course, not every company is able to give bonuses. For many, the simple cost of doing business and the uncertainty of the future has been increasing lately. Not giving a bonus doesn’t necessarily make an employer a Scrooge; it may reflect the still-difficult business environment. But regardless of the situation, every employer should take the time this holiday season to make sure their employees know they are valued and appreciated.”

The survey of 373 businesses was conducted in July 2015. The businesses are current or former clients of Express Employment Professionals. The survey of 872 Express associates was also conducted in July 2015.
