April 24, 2017 // Franchising.com // Omaha, NE – Scooter’s Coffee, the Midwest-based coffee franchise that has experienced tremendous nationwide growth over the past year, is collaborating with the Arbor Day Foundation, to source 100 percent shade-grown coffee in order to protect the rain forests. The partnership reaffirms Scooter’s Coffee’s commitment to contribute to a “chain of good,” at home and abroad. Scooter’s Coffee will celebrate two days that align closely to their corporate values.
On April 22, Scooter’s Coffee joins the global community to celebrate Earth Day, the annual event designed to bring awareness to environmental protection. Many of their franchisees are participating in projects and events in their local communities to commemorate Earth Day. On April 28, Scooter’s Coffee recognizes National Arbor Day - the day designed to celebrate the importance of trees in our lives. Like Scooter’s Coffee, National Arbor Day originated in Nebraska. For every cup of coffee purchased, Scooter’s Coffee will help the Arbor Day Foundation preserve two square feet of rain forest.
“Doing the right thing, whether it’s for our customers, employees, and certainly, the environment will always be an unwavering principle,” said Rob Streett, President and Chief Operating Officer of Scooter’s Coffee. “We are making a pledge to minimize the impact on the habitat at the core of our business. We are thankful for Arbor Day Foundation’s ongoing effort to change the world and encourage others to educate themselves and participate.”
To date, the Arbor Day Foundation has helped preserve more than two billion square feet of rain forest. The Arbor Day Foundation Coffee program dates back four decades. The rain forest was getting depleted as farmers cut down trees to grow crops at a faster rate - in order to keep up with the coffee industry’s demands. Shade-grown coffee returns the industry to its roots by allowing the plants to thrive under the canopy. Besides producing beans that result in a richer and fuller taste, shade-grown coffee provides habitat to hundreds of species of animals. Coffee farmers receive fair wages which help to improve education infrastructure and health care.
“When we made this commitment a little more than a year ago, we set out on a path to improve our community,” said Streett. “Scooter’s Coffee is always driven to make the right choice. Enriching the environment - and the farmers responsible for helping our company grow, is simply the right thing to do.”
