Pizza Joe’s is a locally owned chain of pizzerias in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio. The franchise chain was developed in 1980 by President, Founder Joseph L. Seminara, who always had a drive for entrepreneurship.
Following jobs with family-owned grocery stores and Buckeye Biscuit, Joe’s first inclination was to open his own grocery store; however, choose another route in food service. His first restaurant location was a small 600-square-foot storefront connected to his father’s shoe repair business next to their family home in New Castle, PA.
When Joe “Pizza Joe” Seminara opened the first Pizza Joe’s, he envisioned the business expanding into a chain of eateries bursting with flavor and community spirit.
The first Pizza Joe’s offered just a few menu items made from adapted recipes of Joe’s childhood. After four years of hard work, Joe’s dream began to come true as he opened additional shops throughout the greater New Castle area. The first Pizza Joe’s franchise opened in March 1985 in Ellwood City, PA, followed by many additional franchise operations throughout Pennsylvania and Ohio in the years that followed.
