Home Franchise Concepts Paves Proven Path to Family-Owned Franchise Success

When Lori Morgan and her husband, Bruce, became Kitchen Tune-Up franchisees in 1994, they weren’t just starting a business—they were taking control of their future.

After Bruce’s second layoff from the banking industry, the Colorado couple knew it was time to build something of their own. For Lori, a talented woodworker with an accounting background, Kitchen Tune-Up was the perfect fit. The kitchen renovation brand offered a flexible opportunity to blend her life as a busy mom with her passion for craftsmanship, backed by the resources of the powerhouse Home Franchise Concepts network.

Thirty years later, their leap of faith has turned into a family legacy.

Today, Bruce helps train new Kitchen Tune-Up franchise owners for the corporate team, while two of their five adult children work alongside Lori to oversee the family business, Kitchen Tune-Up of Colorado Springs. Tyler handles commercial sales, while Chad—who honed his management skills at Marriott—returned home to serve as general manager.

Lori laughs when she recalls a childhood moment that foreshadowed their family’s journey: “When Chad was in first grade, his teacher asked what he wanted to be when he grew up,” Lori recalls. “He said, ‘A Kitchen Tune-Up man.”

Franchise partners like the Morgans are embracing Home Franchise Concepts’ mantra “Building Futures Together” to pave a proven path to financial independence across the U.S. and Canada with proven, turnkey brands.

A Family Affair: Growing Together in Business

Shannon O’Dore launched Aussie Pet Mobile from her home in 2008. Even in a tough economy, her business in Tucson grew fast, adding two more vans in that first year alone.

Her two children grew up in the business, where they learned the value of a strong work ethic. Daughter Ashley, whose first job as a teenager was bathing dogs for gas money, is now 26. She joined the company full-time in 2024 as operations manager and has been instrumental in driving new growth. Ashley and her husband, Ryan, plan to eventually take over the reins of the multi-territory mobile grooming franchise.

“The more efficient we are, the more profitable we’ve been,” Shannon says. “Now we run seven days a week and have 11 groomers and seven vans and we just keep growing.”

Why Franchising Works for Families

For Lori and Shannon, franchising’s appeal is straightforward:

“You’re not in it alone,” Lori says. “Especially as a mom, you're wearing so many hats, and it's just nice to be able to tap into other people's strengths for help but also taking your own strengths and building on them.”

That support became critical when disaster struck. Twelve years ago, the Morgans lost their Colorado Springs home in a wildfire that destroyed over 300 houses. Their Kitchen Tune-Up home office and fellow franchisees rallied around them, setting up a fund to help the family rebuild.

“Kitchen Tune-Up was so good to us,” Lori says. “They helped us get our feet back on the ground.”

Shannon echoes the sentiment. Being part of the Home Franchise Concepts system is bigger than just being handed a business model—it’s a collaborative network that feels like family.

“The moment we bring an issue to Home Franchise Concepts, they’re there for us, ready to help,” Shannon says. “What’s been truly priceless is the peer support we have from all the other franchisees across the country. The shared knowledge has so much value that you can apply to your business. It’s been fantastic to grow alongside these other franchisees.”

Both women credit their franchise brands for giving them the best of both worlds—professional fulfillment without sacrificing family time. Their stories also underscore a key advantage for entrepreneurs who team up with a franchise model that fosters loyalty with a winning blueprint that lasts. It starts with the right mindset.

“You’ve got to be very aggressive about it and toss your heart and soul into it,” Shannon says. “And it works. It's a great business.”
