Bonchon Setting the Standard for Korean Fried Chicken...and More!
Bonchon is the unique and authentic Korean fried chicken franchise brand that is cooking up big success throughout America. More than 100 locations are now open in the U.S., each offering the brand’s signature double-frying and hand-brushing techniques alongside its savory proprietary sauces. The brand’s operators are experiencing strong AUVs, saw positive same store sales increases last year, and are trending the same this year. Bonchon is now looking for franchise partners to open units and help spread the brand even further throughout the country.
“I’m confident in the long-term growth potential of this brand. In just the last year, we’ve been able to increase revenue with new restaurant models, new technology, and adding limited time menu offerings,” said Flynn Dekker, CEO Bonchon. “These advancements are the first step for us as we continue to look for ways to evolve the brand and improve the customer experience.”
Bonchon was founded in Busan, South Korea in 2002 by Jinduk Seo, a 20-year industry vet who dreamed of creating a fried chicken restaurant that could replicate the flavors of his hometown. He spent two years testing and perfecting the flavor of his fried chicken, along with his now famous soy garlic and spicy sauces. He named his restaurant “Bonchon,” which means “My Hometown” in Korean. The first international location opened in Fort Lee, New Jersey, in 2006 and the brand now has more than 370 locations in 8 different countries.
Bonchon does Korean fried chicken better than anyone – the unique flavor and extra crispiness of the chicken can’t be found elsewhere. But that’s not all. Customers can also enjoy many other traditional Korean dishes like Bulgogi, Bibimbap and Japchae, and even some Asian Fusion dishes like pork buns, fried rice, and more. All menu items are made to order using only the highest quality ingredients and most Bonchon restaurants offer take-out and delivery services.
The brand also offers franchisees a variety of building models to choose from including one for mall and food courts, a full-service layout, and the new fast-casual model. This latest model was
created to be relevant to the changing times and fit the needs of today’s consumers in flow, menu, and décor. Regardless of the layout, Bonchon offers a unique and authentic dining experience great for family and friends.
Critics, too, have taken note of Bonchon’s success. The brand was recognized by Food & Wine as the Best Chicken Wings in the U.S.; by Business Insider in 2019 as “the gold standard for fried chicken,” beating out five major restaurant brands for “best chicken wings.” Bonchon was recognized in Nation’s Restaurant News: Next Generation Chains, featured as one of the 10 Fast Growing Chains to Watch; recognized as a top ten Movers & Shakers in Fast Casual Magazine’s 2020 Top 100; and most recently debuted on Entrepreneur’s 2021 Franchise 500 List, ranking 277 out of 500.
