Partners Find Sweet Deal With Bruster's Real Ice Cream Franchise
Dr. Ramez Assad and Tiger Najjar were childhood friends who became business partners as adults. Most recently, the two have become successful franchisees with Bruster’s Real Ice Cream. They opened their first location in North Olmstead, Ohio (just west of Cleveland) last summer and have development rights to open five additional locations in the area.
Bruster’s Real Ice Cream is a Pittsburgh-based franchise brand that’s known as the home of 150 flavors of premium ice cream, yogurt, Italian ice, and sorbet that’s hand-crafted in each shop daily. Each of the brand’s more than 200 franchise locations offers at least two dozen fresh flavors available daily.
Assad, who also just happens to be a dentist, said he first discovered Bruster’s Real Ice Cream online when he was searching for best franchise opportunities. “My partner and I wanted to do something together in business during the pandemic and we took advantage of the opportunity as it developed,” he said.
Assad and Najjar got a chance to taste the brand’s ice cream in Columbus and even liked it so much they not only brought home six pints, but began ordering it for delivery. It was love at first bite. The duo moved forward because of the quality of the ice cream and the fact that the brand was still small enough to offer open territories and a personal connection between the brand’s corporate leadership team and its franchisees.
“The franchise isn’t too big so as not to be impersonal with its franchisees. Everyone was very approachable and helpful during the process,” said Assad. “Ongoing support is there in any way you need. You just have to ask for the support. It’s all available.” He also pointed out the camaraderie that exists among the franchisees.
Assad said the quality of Bruster’s ice cream is the cornerstone that makes the brand rise above the competition and added that the brand’s “walk up concept and old timey authentic feel” are also unique differentiators.
The duo’s first year was pretty good, said Assad. “We are going to finish our first year with gross revenue above yearly average for the company. That’s a great start but we definitely want to improve and are working to achieve top 10 status in sales for the 2023 calendar year.”
So there’s no surprise that there’s more development on the horizon for Assad and Najjar. “We have an agreement for five more locations and all will be in the Greater Cleveland area and surrounding suburbs.”
Assad said they plan to finish 2022 strong by focusing on keeping the standards for quality that they’ve established and locking down their second location.
“Anybody looking for a great investment opportunity will find a great product and great franchise with Bruster’s Real Ice Cream,” he said.
