Going Deep!: 9th Annual Multi-Unit Conference is a "Playbook for Success"

If the standing-room-only educational sessions weren't enough to inspire the multi-unit franchisees, the spirited address from NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka certainly was. It was all part of the 2010 Multi-Unit Franchising Conference held this past March in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay.

The event has become a perennial industry hot spot with top multi-unit franchisees and industry vendors all convening for a chance to press the flesh and create new deals.

"One of the best networking conferences out there," said Ted Torres, CEO of International Hospitality Development Alliances, a multi-unit, multi-brand hotel franchisee. "The content is clear, concise, and you not only hear from other industry professionals, but some outstanding consultants that are able to give you those couple of nuggets you can take back to your operation and implement well."

Indeed, panelists and industry experts addressed crowds on a variety of topics throughout the three-day event. Subjects ranged from growth strategies to recruiting and retaining top talent. Inspirational speakers like legendary coach Mike Ditka shared their life experiences and encouraged attendees to continue to focus on success and excel at all costs.

This year's event saw attendance up more than 30 percent over last year's conference. More than 200 franchisee organizations with operations throughout the country were at the conference. Data show that these industry leaders operate a total of 5,065 units, generate more than $3 billion in revenue, and provide jobs for 95,226 people. Many were there to find out more about adding additional brands to their ever-growing portfolios. There were more than 100 exhibitors on hand and the exhibit hall was sold out far in advance.

"Multi-unit franchises are one of the most important drivers of economic growth in the country, and this conference offers the ideal venue for industry leaders to network with their peers, gather information about concepts they are interested in, and discover new opportunities," said Therese Thilgen, president of Franchise Update Media Group, which sponsors the event.

"A must attend ...Perfect size," said Jack in the Box franchisee Mike Flores. "Great networking opportunity."

Next year's event will make a return visit to Las Vegas on April 27-29, 2011. Registration information will follow at www.multiunitfranchisingconference.com.
