Gamify Your Marketing - It's Time to Take It Seriously
Gamification, "the application of game-design elements and game principles in non-game contexts" (Wikipedia), is not new to marketing. As far back as 2013, more than 70 percent of Forbes Global 2000 companies said they planned to use gamification for marketing and customer retention. Gamification also has found a home in customer engagement and retention as the use of digital and social media by both consumers and marketers has ballooned in the past 5 years or more. (Can you say Pokémon GO? Candy Crush?) And now, with augmented reality finding a growing niche in marketing, the adoption of gamification will continue to grow, especially among younger consumers who grew up playing computer, video, and online games. Here are 15 different takes on how it's being used today, where it's going, and tips on how to make it work for your brand. You can search for yourself, but we thought we'd save you the trouble (and learn a few things ourselves in the process!).
And finally, a couple of "scholarly" articles. If you're really serious about the intellectual underpinnings of gamification in consumer marketing (and have a pot of coffee on hand), try these articles on for size. They're several years old, but the concepts still hold water (or coffee).
