Ziebart Franchise Overview

My partnership with Ziebart has been successful because they are willing to listen, we have access to them, and they're good at what they do. Everyone has a vested interest in the success of both the franchisor and franchisee, and I think that dynamic motivates both parties to produce the best financial results.

Richard Lester
Multi-store owner for over 50 years.

I decided on a Ziebart franchise because of my love for vehicles. I knew that Ziebart was a successful franchise, having been around for over sixty years in 34 countries, and I knew that I would have a better chance of being successful in partnering with a company like that.

Tim Shinkle
owner of Ziebart of Warsaw, IN

Franchise History

While rebuilding a wrecked 1953 Packard in his spare time, Kurt Ziebart begins his first attempts at rustproofing its body panels. Once his rustproofing sealant was perfected and patented tools were developed, Kurt Ziebart and partners Rudy Herman, Joe Selagi and George Krausmann set up a new company called Auto Rustproofing Company.

In 1959, they opened the first rustproofing shop at 14700 Harper Avenue in Detroit, MI.

In 1963, Roger Waindle, a recognized expert in the field of corrosion studies, buys out George Krausmann’s interest in Auto Body Rustproofing, Inc. His plans called for the development of a franchise network, refinement of the rustproofing sealant and securing accounts in the fleet industry.

In 1962, the first franchise is sold to James M. Rouen and Tommie L. Hickman in Perrysburg, OH. Roger Waindle sets up a company called Ziebart Process Corporation and buys out Kurt Ziebart and Joe Selagi’s interest in Auto Rustproofing, Inc. He becomes the sole owner.

In 1965, to keep up with demand, 18 franchises offering the rustproofing service, including one in Windsor, Canada (the company’s first international location), are opened.

Today, the company is much more than rust protection, as they offer a host of proprietary products and services that clean, enhance and protect vehicles around the world. As the worldwide leader in premium automotive appearance and protection services, Ziebart operates over 400 locations, with 1300 service centers, in 35 countries.
