Nestlé® Toll House® Café by Chip® founding partner Ziad Dalal will never forget the first time he stepped on the campus of his beloved Texas A&M University. The Lebanese native, who had his pick of post-graduate spots, was looking for the right fit to challenge his pursuit of a master’s degree in civil engineering. And, what’s not to like about a top-tier university where “Howdy” is its official greeting.

“It was a beautiful campus, with a great engineering program and great people,” recalls Dalal, CEO of Nestlé® Toll House® Café by Chip® franchisor Crest Foods Inc. “Everyone was so friendly.”

The entrepreneur credits the commitment to excellence he has for his premier restaurant franchise to a foundation built during his time at Texas A&M. The values – Loyalty, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Selfless Service and Respect—are at the core of the University and every “Aggie,” the nickname of Texas A&M students.

These core values continue to guide Dalal in his quest to take Nestlé® Toll House® Café by Chip® to greater heights.

“We have a culture of servant leadership,” says Dalal. “Our job is to serve the franchisees, and we ask them to serve their customers in the same way. We truly believe in servant leadership.”

Dalal, who also earned an MBA from the University of Dallas, sketched out the bakery and café concept on a napkin more than two decades ago.

Today, there are more than 85 Nestlé® Toll House® Café by Chip® locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and the brand remains hungry for more sweet growth.

A systemwide culture of loyal customers and franchisees has been instrumental to the company’s sustained success. Franchisees come to look to the Franchisor for their experience and depth of knowledge about their business investment. Relationships begin from a first phone call that lasts for years to come. Dalal’s most dedicated employees have been by his side for decades as he continues to serve his Franchisees daily.

Both Dan Harris, Senior Director of Operations, and Marketing Manager Monica Brown are Texas A&M graduates, and his company relies on the architectural expertise of Blue Stone Construction owner Kyle Boothe—you guessed it—an Aggie too.

Franchise partners Liz and Justin Guyton also bring smiles to Aggies year-round from their local café located in College Station, Texas, home of Texas A&M.

For Dalal, relationships are everything.
