Wienerschnitzel Opens First Houston Area Location with Gusto
The World’s Largest Hot Dog Franchise, Wienerschnitzel, has arrived in Houston and is primed for more Texas-sized growth.
The Houston area debut of Wienerschnitzel is welcome news for the largest market in the Lone Star State. The New Caney restaurant—opening at the end of May– is the first of three flagship locations. This introduction launches a massive area development agreement to build 32 new Wienerschnitzel restaurants throughout Houston and the 20 surrounding counties.
“Our objective is to make Wienerschnitzel a household name in Texas,” says Zaheed Umatiya, managing partner of Houston Wieners LLC, a local family-owned and operated franchise group spearheading the brand’s area growth.
Houston Wieners brings decades of real estate and franchise food service experience to Wienerschnitzel as area developers who have embraced the role of brand ambassadors.
The New Caney end-cap location in greater Houston features ample indoor seating, as well as a drive-thru. A second free-standing flagship store is set for Baytown, with an announcement for a third flagship site slated later this year. The 32-unit expansion will be built out over a 15-year development schedule, with select flagship stores, operated by Houston Wieners, to serve as training facilities.
Wienerschnitzel’s parent company, Galardi Group Inc., will provide initial hands-on training, local real estate, construction, and ongoing field support to help new franchisees thrive in the market.
“We have decided to develop three different restaurants: an end-cap in a strip center, a free-standing new Heritage model, and conversion of a second-generation restaurant building,” says Umatiya, head of real estate and finance management for Houston Wieners. “This will allow potential franchisees to have options when joining the team. Along with strong corporate support, we will also provide an additional layer of support, to help franchisees build and develop successful stores.”
The Houston area development program offers opportunities for single and multi-unit franchisees and multi-brand operators who are looking to diversify with a brand built on operational simplicity and a high potential for growth.
“Our group is extremely excited to share Wienerschnitzel with the community,” Umatiya says. “We have had wide-ranging support from the franchise department to IT to marketing – everyone has a common goal to see us thrive in this new market.”
With 330 locations in 11 states and a refreshed focus on franchise expansion, Wienerschnitzel is aggressively pursuing new growth with multi-unit partnerships and protected area representative programs for new markets primed for the unique franchise. Chili dogs, chili cheese fries, corndogs, beverages, and soft serve desserts represent 91 percent of all sales.
New and existing Wienerschnitzel franchisees also have the opportunity to adopt the brand’s new Heritage building design. The next-generation store design combines a unique and simple menu with a smaller footprint, for a lower cost of entry and maximum operational efficiencies.
“Given the simplicity of operations, we feel multi-unit franchisees, and first-time franchisees, will find Wienerschnitzel to be an attractive option,” adds Umatiya. “It’s a great opportunity to join an established brand with a revitalized corporate vision for success. We are looking for motivated individuals who want to take the next step in their careers. Personally, we look for people with a brand ambassador mentality and who demonstrate passion towards their work.”
