2017 Multi-Unit Franchisee Award Winners

Multi-Unit Franchisee magazine honored franchisee excellence at the annual Most Valuable Performer (MVP) Awards ceremony at this year’s Multi-Unit Franchising Conference, April 23–26 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

The nomination and selection process was competitive. The 11 honorees chosen demonstrated outstanding performance in growing their organizations and their brands. Each of them is a successful operator, innovator, and creative thinker who is always looking to raise the bar.

The American Dream Award winner was Anand (Andy) Patel.

He has been franchising for 20 years and currently operates 63 Applebee’s, 38 IHOP, 24 Burger King, 8 Pizza Hut, and 3 Travelodge locations. His franchises are located throughout Florida, Alabama, Texas, Virginia, and the Midwest. His company generates $200 million in annual revenue.

The Community Involvement Leadership Award winner was Karen Morse.

She has been in franchising for 18 years and currently operates 6 Ben & Jerry’s in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Her company generates $4.3 million in annual revenue.

The Single-Brand Leadership Award winner was Johnny Weber.

He has been franchising for more than 8 years and currently operates 51 Sport Clips locations. His franchises are located throughout Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. His company generates $22 million in annual revenue.

The Influencer Award for Husband & Wife Team went to Todd & Audra Fetter.

The couple has been in franchising for 8 years and currently operates 7 Buffalo Wings & Rings locations. Their franchises are located in Ohio and South Dakota. Their company generates $10 million in annual revenue.

The Noble Cause Award winner was Bret Stewart.

He has been in franchising for 31 years and currently operates 16 Auntie Anne’s, 1 Schlotzsky’s, 1 standalone Cinnabon, and 2 co-branded Schlotzsky’s/Cinnabon locations. His franchises are located in Washington, Alaska, and San Diego. His company generates $10 million in annual revenue.

The Spirit of Franchising Award winner was Mark Friedman.

He has been in franchising for 5 years and currently operates 6 Senior Helpers locations. His territories are in Massachusetts and his company generates $3.7 million in annual revenue.

The Mega Growth Leadership Award winner was Eddie Rodriguez.

He has been in franchising for 30 years and currently operates 179 Wendy’s locations. His franchises are located throughout Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Tampa, and Ocala, Florida; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and El Paso, Texas. His company generates $330 million in annual revenue.

The Veteran Entrepreneurship Award winner was Kevin Kelly.

The former U.S. Navy fighter pilot has been in franchising for 5 years and currently operates 5 Planet Fitness locations in Arizona and Washington.

The Influencer Award for Former Pro Athlete award winner was Brendon Ayanbadejo.

The former NFL player has been in franchising for 3 years and currently operates 7 Orangetheory Fitness locations. His franchises are located in Los Angeles and San Jose. His company generates between $6 and $7 million in annual revenue.

The Multi-Brand Growth Leadership award winner is TA Restaurant Group.

A multi-unit, multi-brand franchisee and division of TravelCenters of America LLC, a Fortune 500 company, with 30 different foodservice concepts nationwide. Accepting the award on behalf of TA Restaurant Group was 20 year company executive, Senior Vice President of Food Service Operations, John Ponczoch.

The Innovation Award winner was Mitch York.

He has been in franchising for 15 years and currently operates 5 Maui Wowi Hawaiian Coffees & Smoothies portable catering locations. His franchise locations are in New York and surrounding states.
