Operator To Open 50 Fuzzy's Taco Shops In Southeast

Richard Maddox has just signed a deal to open 50 Fuzzy’s Taco Shop locations in southern states, including new markets in Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee, and additional locations in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. Maddox is a Slim Chickens operator and former Sonic franchisee.

Maddox thinks Fuzzy’s unique flavor and quality food will be a hit in the new Southeast markets where he plans to open stores. “I was looking to add a Mexican restaurant brand to my portfolio, and the most important element was to find delicious food that would keep people coming back time and time again,” he said.

It was also important for Maddox to team up with a brand that had an emphasis on strategic growth. “The Fuzzy’s Taco Shop corporate team’s growth goals for the brand very much align with what I have planned, so the timing made perfect sense,” said Maddox. “Their ability to keep the brand fresh and relevant is also impressive to me and is what I believe will make the brand so successful as we expand into new markets.” 

His first two Fuzzy’s Taco Shop locations are set to open in the first half of 2022 in Auburn, Alabama, and Albany, Georgia. He has plans to open as many as four more restaurants by the end of the year. His restaurants will mark the first time a Fuzzy’s has been built with a drive-thru.
