Multi-Unit Franchisee Insight - On Measuring Growth & the Future

We talk to successful multi-unit operators regularly here at Franchise Update Media. These busy on-the-go people share great insight and wisdom with us through our profile stories in Multi-Unit Franchisee magazine. Here, from our archives, are some insightful responses from some of these franchisees.

How do you measure the growth of your business?
By the number of locations we open each year and by the same-store sales performance of each location.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
We started 2014 with 10 locations and ended 2018 with 60-plus locations open. So in the near future, we are focused on looking at our business as a whole and evaluating and fine-tuning our processes and systems. Looking ahead, we want to continue opening new locations in our existing key DMAs of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Colorado, and Northern Florida.
Bill Noble, multi-unit franchisee of Pearle Vision

How do you measure the growth of your business?
More flags in the ground and through same-store sale comps.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 years we would like to be at 50 restaurants. In 10 years, I would like to have surpassed our 5-year goal and be able to give the opportunity to our teammates to own their own restaurants. I believe mentorship is what it’s all about and would like to help our team grow their businesses. If this opportunity comes before 10 years, that’s cool too.
Andrew Weinstein, multi-unit operator of Smoothie King

How do you measure the growth of your business?
John: Through overall sales as well as individual salon performance metrics. That includes seeing growth in all of our services and product sales.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
John: Patti wants to have more freedom with our grandkids. From a business standpoint, we want to be debt-free, and we plan to keep growing. Patti: In 5 years, I hope to be spending more time volunteering and on nana duty. Even more so in 10 years!
John and Patti Pritchard, multi-unit franchisee of Fantastic Sams
