Potbelly Growth On Pace To Nearly Double The Number Of Franchisee Locations
Potbelly Sandwich Shop has recently signed franchise agreements that will, when built out, nearly double the brand’s franchise footprint thanks to multi-unit development deals for 38 new units opening from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Tampa, Florida, and the Carolinas.
The neighborhood sandwich restaurant known for its customizable sandwiches, signature salads, hand-dipped shakes, cookies, and other fresh menu items has been growing its franchise base in 2019.
The latest strategic expansion for the Chicago-based sandwich brand includes a newly inked 13-unit deal in the Carolinas, a 10-unit agreement in the Las Vegas market, and a 15-unit deal in the Tampa area. The brand has been looking to build on its momentum by adding partners in developing and underserved markets. Potbelly carefully selected their partners in these markets to be strong matches for the brand’s culture and vision.
These newest agreements come on the heels of a growth wave Potbelly has been riding in the sandwich space. The brand was ranked #71 on the Franchise 500, Entrepreneur, 2019, and made the list of the Top 100 Restaurant Chains, in Nation’s Restaurant News, for 2018.
“The increased pace of franchising is a key component of Potbelly’s growth strategy and is premised on partnering with experienced, well-capitalized multi-unit operators,” said Potbelly’s Vice President of Franchise Development Peter Ortiz. “Our reception in the franchise marketplace has been very encouraging. We have enjoyed a solid first two quarters, and with additional attractive regions still available, our momentum should continue.”
Combined with Potbelly’s growth momentum is a continued focus on refining its operations while introducing new initiatives designed to grow shop revenues. The brand rolled out its enhanced menu earlier this year which is helping drive an increase in average check. It also expanded off-premise business with its recent national partnership with DoorDash. And Potbelly continues to test and refine its new “Shop of the Future” platform which is expected to increase customer convenience, improve shop productivity and transparency, optimize sales, and leverage technology more effectively.
