Happy’s Pizza Marks 25 Years Primed for Explosive Growth

Happy’s Pizza is revved up for supercharged growth poised to triple the presence of the iconic brand through nationwide franchise expansion.

Celebrating 25 years of “Delivering More than Just Great Pizza,” Happy’s Pizza is not your typical pizza joint—by design. The Michigan-based brand specializes in serving up a crave-worthy, diverse menu with high-quality food and unbeatable prices.

With a vibrant regional presence as a fast-casual favorite, Happy’s Pizza is just getting started. The franchise has about 75 stores opened, with many more on the way, says Mark Wolok, vice president of business development for Happy’s Pizza franchise.

“I don’t feel we have competition,” says Wolok. “Our pizza is phenomenal, and represents 35% of our business, but we aren’t in the pizza wars. I don’t think anyone can touch the quality of our food, our unbeatable prices, and incredible service.”

Happy’s Pizza opened its doors on a busy Detroit street corner in 1994 as the inner city’s first delivery outlet. Over the years, the popular chain built a name for itself as the go-to place for full-service carryout and delivery—and a mega problem-solver for meal planning. A family of four or five, for $20 or less, can get amazing food with access to a menu including smoked ribs, rib tips, Happy wings, subs, seafood, salads, burgers and desserts, and of course incredible pizza. Restaurants also offer online ordering to simplify the ordering process.

“We are big with families, schools, hospitals, and churches,” Wolok says. “Our Catering menu features a complete assortment of food items, which allows businesses, or even just a party, to order from one place and get it all, for about $3 to $4 a person, along with our FREE delivery. You can visit our complete Catering menu at happyspizza.com.”

Firmly established as a one-stop concept with something for everyone, Happy’s Pizza stands primed to take its “Eat Happy’s, Be Happy” mantra on the road with smart growth. The brand wants to attract people that love their brand, “along with us loving our potential new franchisees. We are looking for owner-operators, from their current market area, looking for vested franchisees, food background preferred, but not required,” adds Wolok. Third party financing available, and Happy’s is SBA approved.

“We are out to grow our brand, and we realize the way to grow our brand is with quality franchisees,” explains Wolok. “We are being selective in choosing our franchisees and relying on them to understand our product. We plan to train and support them throughout the process from beginning to end. Our commitment of support we provide to our franchisees is what Happy’s prides themselves on.”

Happy’s Pizza takes pride in being an authentic brand that treats franchise partners like family. Franchise agreements are based on a flat monthly fee, with no percentage-based royalty fees required—a practice that makes for happy franchisees.

“Unlike traditional franchise companies that go off the volume of your business with 6 or 7 percent royalties, we don’t go off of sales. We have a flat $1,500 a month royalty,” explains Wolok. “Most of the times when our franchisees open a location, they usually approach us faster than we approach them for their second, third, and fourth location.”

Happy’s is now affiliated with a new brand called Savvy Sliders, specializing in mouthwatering, made-to-order gourmet sliders, using the highest quality fresh—never frozen—Angus steak burger. The menu also includes fried chicken, grilled chicken, Falafel, for Vegan customers, ribeye, fried fish, and seasoned fries.  For the everyday $6.99 lunch special customers can enjoy any two sliders, seasoned or our regular fries, and a soft drink.

Savvy Sliders is a great choice for restaurant operators who want to be part of the newest trend in gourmet burgers, this brand is also a compliment to many co-branding options.

There are currently two co-branded locations with Happy’s in Metro Detroit, a third opened in Cincinnati, with Lansing, Michigan and Las Vegas coming soon, and many more under development, co-branded, free-standing, along with drive-thru locations. Visit savvysliders.com.

Wolok says Happy’s Pizza locations are cooking across the country with franchise opportunities still available.
