Top Franchise Maaco Encourages Veterans to Become Owners

Veterans ready for a new start as an entrepreneur will find significant special ownership incentives and a strong franchise partner in Macco Collision Repair and Auto Painting—America's top body shop.

Maaco is offering any new franchisee, who qualifies as a veteran, 75 percent off the initial franchise fee, and a 4 percent reduction on royalty fees during the first two years of operations, per the brand’s 2019 franchise disclosure document (FDD).

Already recognized as a top franchise for veterans, Macco leads the way in the $43 billion automotive paint and collision industry. The brand's recently launched veterans incentive program is designed to honor those with military service and open new doors of opportunity for veterans and the Maaco brand. It's a heartfelt mission for Bob Benjamin, president of Maaco, who served his country for 30 years—and several deployments—as a colonel in the U.S. Army.

“My Senior Vice President of Operations, Russ Slocum, as a Naval Special Operations Officer, and we have a long history of not only hiring veterans to work on the Maaco team but also a long history of military veterans owning franchises,” says Benjamin. “We are proud to offer great programs to bring veterans right out of the military and put them into the ownership positions and help them get started running their own business.”

With more than 500 independently owned and operated franchises across the U.S. and Canada, Maaco offers franchisees a proven playbook, backed by the mega muscle of its parent company Driven Brands Inc.  Along with Maaco, the Driven Brands automotive aftermarket franchise family includes Meineke Car Care Centers, CARSTAR, 1-800 Radiator & A/C, and Take 5 Oil Change to name a few.

“Owners can expect second-to-none training and ongoing operational support,” says long-time Rock Hill, South Carolina franchisee Bill Capel, who is also a U.S. veteran.

“If I had opened on my own, even as good as I am and aggressive as I can be, I would never have had the volume of business without the Maaco brand identification,” says Capel. “Would I do it again? Yes, I would do it again. Would I do it the same way? No. I would have started sooner in my life.”

Maaco is going straight to the source—the country's military bases—to spread the word on the new franchise incentives. The brand plans to attend job fairs, special events, and meet with soldiers who are completing their active duty and looking forward to their next career.

Maaco has a history of showing its appreciation with a long-standing tradition of giving back to veterans including refurbished, donated vehicles; special pricing on services; and annual promotions during Military Appreciation Month. The brand, named to Entrepreneur magazine's 2018 “Top Franchises for Veterans” list, also has over 40 veterans who own or manage franchises, and many more employed nationwide as technicians in their centers.

“Veterans bring with them skills learned throughout their service, such as a strong work ethic, determination, and a get-it-done attitude that make them successful entrepreneurs,” says Benjamin.

Maaco provides automotive paint and cosmetic repair services for nearly 500,000 drivers annually and has restored the safety and appearance of more than 20 million vehicles over 47 years. Maaco has also been named a top automotive franchise numerous times by Entrepreneur in its Annual Franchise 500 ranking.
